Bluebonnet’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to appoint Debbi Goertz to fill its vacant District 3 Board seat. Goertz, an attorney from Bastrop County, will serve out an unexpired term and be up for re-election in May 2019
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s directors appointed Debbi Goertz to fill the vacant District 3 seat representing Bastrop County on the cooperative’s 11-member Board of Directors. The District 3 seat, one of three from Bastrop County, was left vacant by the death of Director Kathleen Handy in May 2016.
“We are excited to welcome Debbi to Bluebonnet’s Board of Directors,” said Board Chair Ben Flencher. “Bluebonnet’s members are fortunate to have someone of Debbi’s caliber to fill the vacant Bastrop County seat. She knows the community well, cares about Bluebonnet and I am confident she will serve our members with great skill and dedication.”
Bluebonnet received four applications to fill the vacant seat. A Board of Directors committee chaired by Secretary/Treasurer Roderick L. Emanuel, and including Directors James B. Kershaw, Russell Jurk and Robert Mikeska, reviewed applications and interviewed the candidates. After the candidate interviews, the committee recommended the top three candidates to be voted on by the full Board. The 10 current directors appointed Goertz by a unanimous vote to fill the vacant seat.
“We had four highly qualified candidates for this seat on our Board,” Emanuel said. “This made the decision to choose one very difficult, but it also ensured that whomever the Board chose to fill this seat would be an outstanding director. We are pleased with the process and delighted to have Debbi join Bluebonnet’s Board.”
Debbi Goertz has lived in Bastrop for 23 years and has been a Bluebonnet member since 1998. She has practiced law in Bastrop County for more than a decade. In addition to her law practice, Goertz has taught at Smithville High School and worked for the Department of Public Safety in Austin. She has been active in the community with the Girl Scouts of America, the Children’s Advocacy Center, the Bastrop County Historical Society and the Family Crisis Center. Goertz earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Texas Tech University and graduated from the Baylor University School of Law. She and her husband, Bryan, have a daughter who is attending the University of Texas at Austin. “I am pleased and honored to be chosen by the Board to fill the seat that Kat held,” Goertz said. “Bluebonnet is a wonderful organization that cares very deeply about serving its members and the community. I am so excited to be a part of a winning team like Bluebonnet and look forward to diving in to learn as much about the business as I can as quickly as I can.”
Goertz will serve out the District 3 unexpired term. She will be up for re-election in May 2019.
